1. What is a FEMA Hiring Event?
On December 7th, 2023, FEMA Program Offices will partner with FEMA OCHCO in Winchester Virginia from 9AM -
4PM. Resumes must be submitted through the link provided. Interviews are by invitation only. The FEMA
Recruitment Team will host the job hiring event to search for talented individuals to join our workforce. The event
will provide opportunities for all qualified candidates to become a FEMA employee. For Candidates applying for the
Denton, Texas positions, the interviews will be conducted virtually via the zoom platform.
2. Who is eligible to apply for employment opportunities during the hiring event?
FEMA is searching for Stafford Act (CORE) positions to fill current vacancies for FEMA staffing needs. The available
duty locations are in four cities in: Denton, Texas, Hyattsville, MD, Winchester, VA and Washington, DC. FEMA is
committed to employing a highly qualified workforce that reflects the diversity of our nation. All candidates will

3. Are the opportunities for virtual or in-person duty locations?
The job announcements will clearly indicate whether the openings are telework eligible. For telework, an employee
is scheduled to work from either an alternate worksite (typically their home) or their Official Worksite (i.e., their FEMA
office or other facility), with the requirement to report to their Official Worksite at least four times per biweekly pay
period.
4. What are some FEMA employees benefits?

5. How do I apply for positions that are available during the hiring event?
Anyone who is interested in applying for a position during the hiring event will be able to scan the above QR code
that will also be posted on various platforms such as LinkedIn, Handshake, Indeed, The Hispanic-Latino Professional
Association, Professional Diversity Network Association, WebScribble Diversity Job Board, and other social media
services. Interested candidates can scan the QR code for access to a bank of job announcements that will be
posted from November 6th - 13th , on USAJOBS.GOV. Interested applicants will need a USAJOBS account to apply.
Once the candidate is on the USAJOBS site, a list of job opportunities for this event will be displayed. Candidates
can apply for as many opportunities as possible by selecting the job titles for each announcement. Each
announcement will have an apply button with step-by-step directions to ensure the application is completed. It is
important to read the announcement thoroughly to ensure all requirements are met.
6. What are the Employee Types offered during the hiring event?
Cadre of On-Call Response/Recovery Employee (CORE)
Cadre of On-Call Response/Recovery Employees (COREs) are full-time employees hired to directly support the
response and recovery efforts related to disasters and are funded out of the Disaster Relief Fund (DRF). COREs are
hired to work for a specific, limited period, between two and four years. Through Section 1222 of the Disaster
Recovery Reform Act (DRRA), COREs and other Stafford Act employees are allowed to compete for permanent fulltime
positions through merit promotion procedures.
7. Where is the physical location for the hiring event?
All candidates selected to interview for the Denton, TX duty location will be contacted to schedule an interview
virtually. All other candidates selected for an interview will report to the Millwood Station Fire and Rescue
Department, 250 Costello Dr., Winchester 22602.
