Community Status Book

The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) enables property owners to purchase flood insurance. In return, communities agree to adopt and implement local floodplain management regulations that contribute to protecting lives and reducing the risk of new construction and substantial improvements from future flooding.

The NFIP Community Status Book contains the current "NFIP status" of a community in the declared counties.

The "NFIP status" can be that a community either:

  • Participates in the NFIP
  • Does not participate in the NFIP
  • Is suspended or sanctioned

The NFIP status has implications for disaster assistance to the community and to its citizens.
