Tras las severas tormentas e inundaciones ocurridas en febrero, muchos residentes de Kentucky se vieron con el desafío de rescatar sus preciados tesoros familiares (fotografías, documentos, obras de arte y otros recuerdos) dañados por las inundaciones. In the wake of the severe storms and floods in February, many Kentuckians were left with the challenge of salvaging their cherished family treasures—photographs, documents, artwork, and other keepsakes—damaged by floodwaters. In response, FEMA is joining the state’s recovery efforts to help survivors salvage these precious items by deploying the agency’s Save Your Family Treasures (SYFT) team.

FEMA customer service teams are calling applicants with disabilities to provide personal assistance as part of the agency’s commitment to ensure disaster recovery resources are available to everyone who was affected by Tropical Storm Helene.

Un desastre puede traer una serie de desafíos, desde problemas de vivienda hasta necesidades médicas. Si bien cada desastre puede tener sus situaciones particulares, ayudar a las personas sigue siendo la prioridad. Una de las organizaciones que trabaja junto a FEMA para ayudar a superar estos desafíos es el Departamento de Asuntos de los Veteranos (VA, por sus siglas en inglés). Cuando una emergencia o desastre ocurre en un área rural o en algún lugar distante de los servicios, VA puede establecer un Vet Center móvil. Los Vet Center móviles ofrecen una variedad de servicios, como asesoramiento o vivienda, a veteranos, miembros del servicio militar y sus familias. Después de las severas tormentas e inundaciones ocurridas en Kentucky en febrero, el Especialista del Programa de Alcance para Veteranos, Chris Eden, buscó acelerar el proceso de recuperación de los veteranos estableciendo alianzas con FEMA y otras organizaciones.

A disaster may bring any number of challenges, from housing concerns to medical needs. While every disaster may have its own unique issues, helping people remains the priority. One of the organizations working alongside FEMA to help you navigate these challenges is Veteran Affairs. When an emergency or disaster strikes a rural area or somewhere distant from services, the VA may set up a Mobile Vet Center. Mobile Vet Centers offer a range of services – such as counseling or housing – to veterans, service members and their families. After the severe storms and flooding that hit Kentucky in February, Veteran Outreach Program Specialist Chris Eden sought to speed up the recovery process for veterans by partnering with FEMA and other organizations.
