To ensure operations during power outages, a permanent 400-kilowatt diesel fuel generator at the Emergency Operations Center is essential. Storm events in Florida can cause long power outages and reliable backup power is needed.
The project involves installing an Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS). This will provide backup power within 4-6 minutes of a power loss. By providing this to the Emergency Operations Center and the backup 9-1-1 call center, it ensures continuous emergency operations for the city and for the sister cities of Hialeah Gardens,Miami Lakes and Opa-Locka.
