You’re Invited to the Flood Ready Open House #2

Release Date:
julio 26, 2019

PHILADELPHIA – Do you have a Group Flood Insurance Policy from the June 2016 flood event? These policies will expire in August. It is important for you, as a flood insurance policy holder, to purchase or renew an individual flood insurance policy, especially if your home is in a Special Flood Hazard Area.

Join local experts for the Flood Ready Open House, a community event for the Elk Valley Community that will help you manage your flood risk and take control of your flood insurance needs.

The Flood Ready Open House will take place on Aug. 2 from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Aug. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Elkview Middle School, 5090 Elk River Road, Elkview WV.

“Know your Risk” Activities for the Whole Family
Experts will be available to discuss the flood risks in your community, the National Flood Insurance Program, and answer your individual questions. Stop by the event at any time for a private consultation about insurance. You may even see your insurance agent in attendance!

Activities include:

  • Determining your floodzone
  • Understanding your flood insurance needs
  • Mapping your home
  • The Super Soaker Flood Simulator

Your children will enjoy the Super Soaker Flood Simulator and will learn how to create their own flood map. Elk River Backpack Blessings will provide concessions with proceeds supporting their weekend food nutrition program for children.

Why do I need Flood Insurance?

Anywhere it rains, it can flood. Purchasing flood insurance is the smart way to make sure you can recover after a disaster. In addition, residents with Group Flood Insurance Policies are required to purchase an individual policy after three years.

Flood insurance helps more than other aid: Check out your state's flood history with FEMA's interactive data visualization tool. It's easy to see that having flood insurance provides a lot more help for recovery.

When you and your family leave the Flood Ready Open House, you will know how to prepare for the next flood and how to purchase the right insurance policy. By taking these steps you will make your whole community more resilient and add a level of protection to one of your most important investments: your home.
