ATLANTA – The City of Isle of Palms in South Carolina will receive $1,298,459 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency including reimbursement for replacing sand along Isle of Palms Beach after Hurricane Irma.
The almost $1.3 million grant represents a federal share of the project’s total cost of $1,731,278. The remainder will come from non-federal sources.
This grant is funded through FEMA’s Public Assistance Grant program which reimburses communities for actions taken in response to and during recovery from a disaster. Eligible applicants include states, federally recognized tribal governments, U.S. territories, local governments, and certain private non-profit organizations. The grant applications are submitted by the state, which coordinates the process with local governments.
FEMA obligated funding for this project directly to the State of South Carolina. Following the state’s review process and upon receipt of appropriate documentation, the award will be provided to the City of Isle of Palms on a reimbursable basis.
In South Carolina, all 46 counties and the Catawba Indian Nation were designated under the Presidential declaration due to response efforts and damage caused by Hurricane Irma. To date, FEMA has obligated more than $1.7 million through the Public Assistance Program to the state as a result of Hurricane Irma.
