FEMA Manufactured Housing Occupants Finding Permanent Housing Solutions
More than two years after the August 2016 floods, Manufactured Housing Units continue to serve as a temporary housing resource for eligible survivors. More than 4,200 households, about 90 percent of those who received FEMA-provided mobile homes, have recovered and returned home or found other permanent housing.
FEMA continues to support survivors while the state develops a housing strategy to manage any remaining MHU occupants at the end of the period of assistance. FEMA’s Direct Housing assistance is scheduled to end on April, 30, 2019. The program will have operated for 32 months.
The state was granted four Direct Housing program extensions, including the last one in December 2018. The extension agreement outlined that at the end of the period of FEMA’s Direct Housing assistance, the state would prioritize and assist the remaining MHU occupants. Survivors continue to make significant progress in their efforts to recover and find more permanent housing solutions.
