Un desastre puede traer una serie de desafíos, desde problemas de vivienda hasta necesidades médicas. Si bien cada desastre puede tener sus situaciones particulares, ayudar a las personas sigue siendo la prioridad. Una de las organizaciones que trabaja junto a FEMA para ayudar a superar estos desafíos es el Departamento de Asuntos de los Veteranos (VA, por sus siglas en inglés). Cuando una emergencia o desastre ocurre en un área rural o en algún lugar distante de los servicios, VA puede establecer un Vet Center móvil. Los Vet Center móviles ofrecen una variedad de servicios, como asesoramiento o vivienda, a veteranos, miembros del servicio militar y sus familias. Después de las severas tormentas e inundaciones ocurridas en Kentucky en febrero, el Especialista del Programa de Alcance para Veteranos, Chris Eden, buscó acelerar el proceso de recuperación de los veteranos estableciendo alianzas con FEMA y otras organizaciones.

A disaster may bring any number of challenges, from housing concerns to medical needs. While every disaster may have its own unique issues, helping people remains the priority. One of the organizations working alongside FEMA to help you navigate these challenges is Veteran Affairs. When an emergency or disaster strikes a rural area or somewhere distant from services, the VA may set up a Mobile Vet Center. Mobile Vet Centers offer a range of services – such as counseling or housing – to veterans, service members and their families. After the severe storms and flooding that hit Kentucky in February, Veteran Outreach Program Specialist Chris Eden sought to speed up the recovery process for veterans by partnering with FEMA and other organizations.

The grocery industry employs nearly 3 million people to provide tens of millions of food, beverage and household products supporting your communities every day. This daily capacity far exceeds what the government and non-profit organizations can provide during disasters using temporary distribution networks. By supporting the restoration of private sector commodity flows, emergency managers can expedite community recovery and direct government-managed relief supplies to the most at-risk and in-need areas.

WASHINGTON -- La Agencia Federal para el Manejo de Emergencias (FEMA, por sus siglas en inglés) anunció hoy que asistencia federal por desastre está disponible para el estado de South Carolina con el fin de complementar los esfuerzos de respuesta que comenzaron el 4 de agosto, y que continúan, debido a las condiciones de emergencia causadas por el huracán Debby.

WASHINGTON -- FEMA announced today that federal disaster assistance is available to the state of South Carolina to supplement response efforts due to emergency conditions resulting from Hurricane Debby beginning Aug. 4, 2024, and continuing.
