Survivors of hurricanes Laura and Delta in designated parishes could be eligible for rental assistance for temporary housing through FEMA’s Individuals and Households Program.

FEMA pays rent, including a security deposit, at a place other than your damaged home. Your rental can be a house, apartment, hotel or recreational vehicle that can keep you near your job, home, school and place of worship. The assistance includes essential utilities such as electricity and water, but not cable or Internet.

BATON ROUGE, La. – Residents of Allen and Iberia parishes who suffered damage and/or losses as a result of Hurricane Delta (Oct. 6-10, 2020) have until Feb. 21 to register with FEMA and apply for federal disaster assistance.

Answers to Questions on Expanded FEMA Programs for Individuals Affected by Hurricane Delta

 

BATON ROUGE, La. – On Dec. 23, homeowners and renters in Allen and Iberia parishes became potentially eligible for federal disaster assistance. Additionally, nine parishes are now included in FEMA’s Direct Housing program.

The following information answers some questions people may have about the process.

After a survivor has registered with FEMA for disaster assistance, they will receive a determination letter explaining the eligibility decision. For those who are ineligible or are dissatisfied with their eligibility, the letter explains the process for appealing that decision. Appeals Centers are co-located at drive-thru Disaster Recovery Centers to help survivors affected by Hurricanes Laura and Delta.

It’s important to carefully read the determination letter to identify the reason for the decision. Some common reasons include:
