When two or more disasters are declared for the same designated area, FEMA works to ensure applicants receive all eligible help while preventing duplication of federal benefits.

Some families affected by both Hurricanes Laura and Delta in the parishes of Acadia, Calcasieu, Cameron, Jefferson Davis and Vermilion may need to register with FEMA twice if they experienced damage from both hurricanes. Damage caused by multiple disasters is treated separately based on which storm caused it, even if the same property is damaged.

Hurricane Delta survivors in Louisiana should register with FEMA even if they have registered with the agency for Hurricane Laura. FEMA considers each disaster to be a separate event so survivors affected by multiple storms may receive help more than once.

BATON ROUGE La. – Late Friday, President Donald Trump granted Louisiana’s request for an expedited Major Disaster Declaration (DR-4570) as a result of Hurricane Delta. The declaration includes Acadia, Calcasieu, Cameron, Jefferson Davis and Vermilion parishes.

State and federal officials are encouraging Louisiana residents who suffered losses from Delta to register for disaster assistance with FEMA as soon as possible.

If you previously applied for FEMA assistance after Hurricane Laura, you will have to register again for Delta assistance.
