Campaign to Ensure Puerto Rico Residents Receive Potable Water

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The government of Puerto Rico, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and other agencies are ensuring potable water is available to all residents. 

The multipronged approach to ensure potable water is available to all residents, involves the following:

  • water purification tablets and five-gallon containers for water purification at home;  
  • bottled water to municipalities through regional staging areas;  
  • bulk water tankers to “oasis” locations and locations near Guajataca dam; and   
  • assessing and testing the conditions of drinking water, which includes sampling, analysis; and  
  • getting wastewater treatment systems up and running.

The collaborative effort is being undertaken by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Department of Health and Human Services, the United Nations (UN), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, other federal partners and non-profits organizations.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is assessing the condition of drinking water systems throughout the island.

SBA helps businesses of all sizes, private non-profit organizations, homeowners and renters, which can cover the cost of replacing lost or disaster-damaged real estate and personal property. These disaster loans cover losses not fully compensated by insurance or other recoveries and do not duplicate benefits of other agencies or organizations.
