KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The regional office of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on Monday welcomed its new regional administrator, Paul J. Taylor, following his recent appointment to the position by the Trump administration.
“Today, I am joining a talented team of committed public servants who work every day to help citizens and communities not only recover from disasters, but to lessen the impacts of future disasters,” said Taylor. “I am really pleased to have this opportunity to help make such a significant difference in people’s lives.”
Prior to joining FEMA, Taylor served for more than 20 years in a variety of leadership and government relations roles in the U.S. military and the private sector. As a result, he brings to FEMA a strong background in management, operations, training, and logistics. Most recently, he was vice president of External Affairs at WillCo Technologies, a Kansas City-based software integration firm specializing in cybersecurity compliance and workforce management solutions.
Previously, Taylor served as a Senior Congressional Budget Liaison for the Department of the Army and as an Adjunct Professor in Budgetary Politics at George Washington University. He rose to the rank of Colonel in the U.S. Army, serving as a commander and staff officer at multiple levels.
Taylor holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from the U.S. Military Academy and a Master's of Arts degree in Public Administration from the University of Louisville.
As Region VII’s administrator, Taylor will oversee a Kansas City-based office of 232 staff and a four-state region that covers Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.
FEMA’s mission is to support our citizens and first responders to ensure that, as a nation, we work together to build, sustain and improve our capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from and mitigate all hazards.
