Help is Available at the Disaster Recovery Centers

Release Date:
April 27, 2023

Disaster Recovery Centers are one-stop shops where disaster survivors can get information and advice about community, state and federal agencies and other available assistance. They are accessible to all, including people with disabilities and those with access and functional needs.

The recovery centers, which began opening April 16, are staffed with trained FEMA specialists as well as representatives from Tennessee state agencies and the U.S. Small Business Administration.

These specialists can clarify information provided by FEMA or other agencies; they can explain the rental assistance available to homeowners and renters; they can help submit your documents to a FEMA processing center; and they can scan or copy new information or documents needed for case files. No appointment is needed to visit any recovery center.

Disaster recovery center visitors can connect with other agencies for help with immediate needs (such as removing storm debris, damaged belongings and construction materials that may present a health hazard, etc.). Recovery center specialists can also help survivors navigate FEMA recovery programs and insurance issues.

SBA representatives can provide program information and explain how to apply for SBA’s low-interest disaster loans for homeowners, renters, businesses and private non-profits.

All recovery centers are accessible. Their assistive technology equipment allows survivors to interact with staff. Video Remote Interpreting is available and American Sign Language is available by request. The centers also have accessible parking, ramps and restrooms.
