Auburn, California: $17.34 million

Project Description

The city of Auburn is at high-risk of wildfires, particularly in its Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) areas. The project aims to lower this risk through three wildfire mitigation actions: hazardous fuels reduction, creating defensible space, and using ignition-resistant construction which will protect 2,000 homes and critical infrastructure in at-risk neighborhoods.

The project includes community education and a phased approach. An extended planning phase will precede implementation and property inspection. The project will also use native plants for defensible space to enhance fire resistance compared to invasive species.
