WASHINGTON — The whole-of-America response to fighting the COVID-19 pandemic continued today, as the first of two PPE shipments arrived in Maryland, for further distribution to more than 15,000 nursing homes across the country.
Meanwhile, an alternate care facility is closer to being stood up in Roseville, Minnesota.
As of May 6, Project Airbridge has completed 122 flights with an additional 23 scheduled or in transit. Three flights landed Wednesday, one each in Chicago, New York City and San Francisco. Two flights are scheduled to land today in Los Angeles.
Through Project Airbridge, the following supplies have been delivered from overseas manufacturers to the U.S. and into private sector supply chains from March 29 to May 6:
More than 768,000 N-95 masks.
- More than 876 million gloves.
- More than 87 million surgical masks.
- More than 14.1 million surgical gowns.
- More than 2.3 million thermometers.
- More than 886,000 face shields.
- More than 342,000 coveralls.
- More than 109,000 stethoscopes.
- More than 370,000 oxygen masks.
- More than 250,000 swabs.
- More than 160,000 cannulas.
FEMA has obligated more than $5.8 billion in emergency protective measures. In the last 24 hours, that amount includes $10 million to Puerto Rico.

North Carolina Guardsmen Assist Food Bank with Local Distribution
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (May 6, 2020) — Soldiers from the North Carolina Army National Guard assigned to Task Force Sustainment candle and inspect eggs for distribution while assisting the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina. More than 940 N.C. National Guard soldiers and airmen have been activated in response to COVID-19 relief efforts.

Army Reserve Surgical Nurse Answers Call to Assist in Philadelphia Hospital
PHILADELPHIA (May 6, 2020) — U.S. Army Reserve Capt. Jody Reid, a medical-surgical nurse assigned to Urban Augmentation Medical Task Force 352-1, removes PPE after exiting a COVID-19 patient's room at Einstein Medical Center. The task force deployed to the Philadelphia area to assist federal and state agencies at multiple local hospitals to combat the COVID-19 virus.
