Disaster Recovery Center to Open for a Week in Hamilton County

ORLANDO, Fla. – A Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) will be open in Hamilton County to assist Hurricane Irma survivors for one week beginning Wednesday, Jan. 17, at 10 a.m.

Disaster Recovery Centers offer in-person support to individuals and small business owners. Hours will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Wednesday, Jan. 24. The center will be closed Sunday. The DRC will be located at:

Recovery specialists from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and the State of Florida will be available to provide assistance to survivors who want to apply with FEMA, inquire about their applications, learn about the appeals process or update their status. Survivors who previously applied for FEMA assistance do not need to register again, but are welcome to visit the center if they have questions about their recovery.

Disaster survivors who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have a speech disability and use a TTY may call 800-462-7585 to register. Those who use 711 or Video Relay Service, or require accommodations while visiting a center may call 800-621-3362. All disaster recovery centers are accessible and equipped with tools to accommodate disaster survivors who need disability-related communication aids. Each disaster recovery center has assistive technologies for people with disabilities.

Language translations are offered through Telephonic Interpretation Services in 200 languages.

FEMA’s temporary housing assistance and grants for public transportation expenses, medical and dental expenses, and funeral and burial expenses do not require individuals to apply for an SBA loan. However, applicants who receive SBA loan applications must submit them to SBA to be eligible for assistance that covers personal property, vehicle repair or replacement, and moving and storage expenses.
