Survivors whose homes were lost or damaged by the Aug. 8 wildfires on Maui may be eligible for FEMA Transportation Assistance for travel to or from a temporary residence off the island. This assistance is primarily for survivors who qualify for FEMA’s Rental Assistance program.FEMA will contact you if you are eligible for Transportation Assistance.
- Due to the scarcity and cost of housing on Maui, FEMA’s Transportation Assistance will help give Maui survivors temporary rental housing options on other Hawaiian Islands, the continental United States or any other U.S.-governed location. You must secure a rental property on your own.
- Survivors traveling from Maui to their new temporary home are eligible for one round-trip fare for all household members listed on their FEMA application, household pets and service animals. You may call FEMA to add pre-disaster household members to your application if they were not listed at the time you applied.
- If you have already left the island, whether by assistance from FEMA or on your own, you may be eligible for a one-way fare for all household members to return to Maui.
