The Protecting Places of Worship National Weeks of Action takes place Sept. 16 – 27, 2024 as part of National Preparedness Month.

In support of September’s National Preparedness Month, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) dedicates national weeks of action, encouraging faith-based and community organizations to safeguard people and places through partnerships with local emergency managers and first responders. The DHS Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships in partnership with DHS Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, DHS Office of Partnership Engagement, DHS Office of Intelligence and Analysis, DHS Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships, DHS Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, FEMA, the Department of Justice and other federal partners are providing resources and engagement opportunities that assist places of worship in securing physical spaces and their community. The 2024 weeks of action will include virtual workshops for the faith community and private sector. 

This Protecting Places of Worship Weeks of Action supports implementation of the National Strategy for Countering Domestic Terrorism, the Strategic Goal 2.3 of the National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism, and the impending National Strategy to Counter Islamophobia and Related Forms of Bias and Discrimination. 

White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention’s Briefing

The White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention’s Briefing will discuss the progress the Biden-Harris Administration has made to reduce gun violence since President Biden established the first-ever Office of Gun Violence prevention nearly one year ago and asked Vice President Harris to oversee the office. The briefing will be open to any organization or individual interested in learning more. Suspicious Activity Recognition 

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), in partnership with the DHS Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, invites you to a webinar for the faith-based community as part of the “Protecting Places of Worship National Weeks of Action.” The Suspicious Activity Recognition for Bombing Prevention Course provides public safety and security professionals with the knowledge and skills to identify suspicious activity for bombing prevention related to a facility/system or a planned or unplanned event. It includes an introduction to the BOMBER acronym and an overview of baseline behaviors, operational indicators, materials acquisition and storage, bomb-building activities, elicitation, and response. The Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships Presents: Creating a Culture of Violence Prevention in K-12 Schools

This Forum will be hosted by the Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships and moderated by CISA’s School Safety Task Force. Panelists will discuss how school safety experts work to cultivate positive, safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environments, strategies to implement and enhance bystander reporting programs, and available resources for K-12 education communities.

Public-Private Analytic Exchange Program (AEP) Virtual Concluding Summit 

This program facilitates teams of government analysts, including from the Intelligence Community, and private sector analysts to better understand emerging threats by collaborating on topics of mutual interest. Topic teams publish unclassified analytic deliverables which are sent across the government and private sector and are available to the public. Teams have been asked to present their work at various conferences and association events.

Active Shooter Preparedness 

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) aims to build and support active shooter preparedness by empowering critical infrastructure owners and operators to pursue a “whole of community” approach by providing no-cost resources, tools, and training. This two-hour webinar provides information and best practices that can enhance emergency action planning capabilities applicable broadly across sectors and provides considerations to mitigate the impacts of an active shooter incident, while encouraging recovery preparedness.
