Delta County’s flood insurance rate map update is nearing completion. The new maps will provide Delta County and Communities with more accurate flood risk information that can help local officials and residents make informed decisions about reducing flood risks and purchasing flood insurance.
FEMA’s Grant Programs Directorate (GPD) is offering a series of 30-minute training webinars on the Build America, Buy America Act (BABAA), a part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). These virtual trainings will be facilitated by GPD’s Buy America Branch (BAB) and offered on various dates from January through April 2025. The trainings will cover a variety of topics related to BABAA, including roles and responsibilities, best practices, covered products, and waivers. The various training descriptions are below:

Homeowners and renters in Edgefield, Laurens and Union counties who had uninsured damage or losses caused by Hurricane Helene are now eligible to apply for FEMA disaster assistance.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The state-federal Disaster Recovery Center in Boone County will be closing at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7, 2024. Survivors do not have to visit a disaster center to register with FEMA. They can call 800-621-FEMA (3362). The toll-free telephone line operates from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week. If you use a relay service, such as video relay service (VRS), captioned telephone service or others, give FEMA the number for that service. They can also go online to DisasterAssistance.gov or download the FEMA app on their smartphone.

Our friends at the U.S. Fire Administration recently had the opportunity to screen the new documentary “Elemental: Reimagine Wildfire” with the film creators. Before the screening, the U.S. fire administrator, Dr. Lori Moore-Merrell, sat down with one of the film’s participants, Margo Robbins, to get a better understanding of cultural fire and how the practice of cultural burning will lead to a healthier ecosystem, long-term fire protection for residents, and provide a platform that will support traditional hunting and gathering activities. The conversation was shared on the USFA podcast and now, we’re sharing the conversation with you.
