With the deadline to apply for federal disaster assistance only seven days away, New Yorkers who had losses or damage from Hurricane Ida should keep in mind that FEMA provides financial assistance to eligible individuals and households who have uninsured or underinsured necessary expenses as a result of the storm. FEMA assistance is not a substitute for insurance and cannot compensate for all losses caused by the disaster.

FEMA will suspend operations at the three remaining fixed Disaster Recovery Centers in New York Thursday in observation of Thanksgiving. The FEMA Helpline will also be closed for the holiday. All three centers and the Helpline resume operations Friday, Nov. 26.

Homeowners and renters with uninsured or underinsured damage to their property from Hurricane Ida in the Bronx, Dutchess, Kings, Nassau, Queens, Richmond, Rockland, Suffolk and Westchester counties have two weeks left to apply for federal disaster assistance.
