ST. CROIX, U.S. Virgin Islands – A commitment of $384.8 million to demolish and replace three elementary schools on St. Croix, one on St. Thomas and repair a school lunch warehouse on St. Thomas mark the latest milestones in FEMA’s collaboration with the Territory to rebuild school infrastructure across the U.S. Virgin Islands which were damaged during hurricanes Irma and Maria in September 2017.

The recovery from the 2017 hurricanes, Irma and Maria, is progressing and FEMA is still here assisting the Territory with the efforts. During the next several weeks, FEMA will be posting the “We Are FEMA USVI” series on their FEMA U.S. Virgin Islands Facebook page. The posts will highlight programs/groups, staff and recovery projects in the territory.

Department of Public Works for the USVI Slope Stabilization Analysis project. The Virgin Islands Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation is managing repairs to Emile Griffith Ballpark in Charlotte Amalie on St. Thomas. FEMA has committed $1.4 million for repairs to the park, which was damaged from hurricanes Irma and Maria in September 2017. Hazard mitigation measures of about $32,595 funded through the Public Assistance Program include new fabric for the park's batting cage and infield to improve drainage from rains. FEMA/Eric Adams

Southgate Baptist Church completed hurricane repairs to its church in Estate Southgate and soup kitchen and community center, Lighthouse Mission, in Christiansted. FEMA will reimburse Southgate Baptist Church about $242,500 for repairs to its facilities, which were damaged by Hurricane Maria in September 2017. FEMA/Angelique Smythe

Southgate Baptist Church completed repairs to its Lighthouse Mission and continues to serve meals and support the community in Christiansted. FEMA will reimburse Southgate about $242,500 for hurricane repairs to its church and mission. Both sites were damaged by Hurricane Maria in September 2017.
