Pacifica Beach builds a new seawall, rock apron and dynamic scour protection system to combat coastal erosion and flooding.
Pacifica, California: $50 million
Project Description
The community of Pacifica in California has faced coastal erosion and flooding issues since the 1983 Niño storm. These issues are worse along Beach Boulevard where existing seawalls have not done enough to prevent flooding.
This project includes building a new seawall, rock apron, and dynamic scour protection system. The seawall will have deep foundation piles and a higher crest elevation. This will help to protect against erosion and flooding from a 60-year storm event. It will also account for 2 feet of projected sea level rise. The project will address coastal bluff failure, mitigate the risks that come with flooding and erosion, and improve earthquake resiliency. This will ensure the safety and protection of the Pacifica community and its infrastructure.
