Skagway, Alaska: $19.9 million

Project Description

Skagway, a small community of 1,191 residents, will undertake rockslide mitigation work on the mountainside east of the Port of Skagway above the north end of the White Pass and Yukon Route dock.

The project will consist of several activities such as mobilization and demobilization, environmental protections and controls, protection of public facilities, traffic controls, providing construction access, clearing, grubbing, hand and machine rock scaling, common and unclassified excavation, rock excavation, hauling and disposal, installation of rock stabilization devices, and improvements to the rockfall mitigation system.

The project will also stabilize the slide zone to allow for the re-opening of the Railroad Dock, thus reducing the industry’s carbon footprint by no longer requiring additional tender boat service to move passengers from the ship to shore, as well as reducing delays from barge activities that must move during the day to allow for cruise vessels to dock.
