Sughan is an 11th grade student from New York. His interest in preparedness was sparked by witnessing the impacts of climate change and pollution in his local community. Experiencing the effects of decreased water and air quality, along with more frequent natural disasters, prompted him to become more proactive in addressing these issues. He hopes his time on the national YPC will provide him with the skills he needs to create change in his community.
Sughan has an extensive background in community engagement and leadership. As a member of the Climate Education and Resilience Task Force, he is working towards passing a bill that would mandate climate education in K-12 schools across New York state. He is also a member of his local junior fire department, where he participates in initiatives to educate community members about proper fire safety and emergency preparedness protocols. Sughan also volunteers his time with organizations like ACEing Autism and SeniorNet.
In his free time, Sughan enjoys playing tennis and listening to hip hop music. He also runs track and has competitively run a mile in 4 minutes and 46 seconds.
