Marissa (Apollo) Rodriguez

Youth Preparedness Council

Region 1 - Connecticut

Apollo is an 11th grade student from Connecticut. They became interested in emergency preparedness through their school’s Criminal Justice and Protective Services Program. The hands-on training Apollo receives through this program has inspired them to pursue a career in emergency management. They are excited to join like-minded peers and make a difference in their community through the national YPC.

Apollo is currently involved in two preparedness projects, including researching artificial intelligence education for responders and developing an emergency preparedness pamphlet for grocery stores. Their volunteer work includes assisting in active shooter drills with local emergency departments and giving fire safety demonstrations to children and their families. Apollo is also a founding member of their school’s No Place for Hate program, which aims to promote equity and prevent bias. Through this program, they have attended multiple equity and restorative action trainings to better represent their school’s community.

In their free time, Apollo enjoys hiking with friends and taking long walks with their dog. They will start EMT training this fall and eventually hope to become a forensic pathologist.
