Katie is an 11th grade student from Texas. Her interest in preparedness began in 2021 when an unprecedented winter storm brought multiday road closures, power outages, loss of heat, broken pipes and other widespread impacts for the region. After helping neighbors in need, she found herself drawn to making a difference through community service. While serving on the national YPC, Katie looks forward to strengthening her leadership skills and expanding her impact on communities in her region and across the country.
Katie is especially passionate about increasing access to preparedness resources for underserved communities. After learning that Deaf communities lack access to preparedness resources, she partnered with regional preparedness experts to develop CPR and automated external defibrillator trainings with American Sign Language subtitles. In her school, Katie demonstrates her leadership and commitment to community service through her roles as founder and president of the Red Cross Club and president of the Future Health Professionals chapter.
Katie spends her free time running and pursuing her interest in photography. She also plays the clarinet.
