FEMA is beginning the process to update its Tribal Mitigation Planning Policy. This policy was last updated in 2017. The policy helps FEMA officials review tribal mitigation plans in a fair and consistent way. It also informs tribal governments about what the plans must include to receive FEMA approval. While the underlying regulations are not changing, this policy update will help keep the tribal policy current.

On May 19, FEMA announced the selection of 46 communities and tribal nations for non-financial Building Resilience Direct Technical Assistance. For communities, tribes, and territories, this assistance can provide holistic hazard mitigation and climate resilience planning and project support from the earliest stages to completion. The efforts are to reduce disaster damage, build community resilience and sustain successful mitigation programs.
