MitFLG History

Each year, the MitFLG works to achieve approved priorities. As appropriate, the MitFLG expands to include new partners and increase the MitFLG’s visibility across the interagency

Years in Review

2023

In 2023, the MitFLG focused on bridging opportunities across resilience. Activities included:

  • Advancing more resilient building codes through the Building Codes Task Force (BCTF), including progressing the work of the National Initiatives to Advance Building Codes (NIABC).  
  • Demonstrating the value of delivering technical assistance to communities based on their unique needs through the Place-Based Technical Assistance Task Force (PBTF), including releasing the MitFLG PBTF Landscape Analysis Summary Report.
  • Exploring mitigation resources to support state, local, tribal, and territorial (SLTT) decision-makers, including standing up the Recovery and Resilience Resource (RRR) Portal Task Force.

2022

In 2022, the MitFLG focused on investments in whole-community resilience. Activities included:

  • Initiating project-based task forces for the MitFLG, including standing up the Building Codes Task Force (BCTF) and Place-Based Technical Assistance Task Force (PBTF).
  • Continuing support of the Wasatch Front Unreinforced Masonry (URM) Risk Reduction Strategy, a local pilot project that used principles from the Investment Strategy to bring together local and national experts to develop a mitigation strategy for significantly reducing the risks posed by URM buildings in the Wasatch Front region of Utah.
  • Developing a common lexicon to support Investment Strategy Recommendation 1:1: Make Mitigation Investment Relevant.
  • Developing the Recovery and Resilience Resource Library to help SLTT governments, nonprofits, businesses, healthcare institutions, schools, individuals, and households navigate numerous disaster recovery and resilience resources.
