White Plains, New York: $24.22 million

Project Description

The Vischer Ferry Dam is prone to ice jam formation and flooding. This project aims to mitigate ice jam flooding and reduce summer flooding in 10 Census tracts along the Mohawk River. It aligns with the Resilient New York program. Computer modeling conducted from Clarkson University has been used to predict the effectiveness of mitigation strategies based on past ice jam events.

The project includes removing and replacing with new pneumatic flash gates on solid concrete along the dam crests. These measures aim to reduce ice jam formation and ice jam flooding. They will enhance the functionality of the dams.
