After a center closes, disaster survivors whose homes or businesses were affected by hurricanes Irma and Maria can still get updates about applications, learn about the appeals process or check the status of their claim the following ways:
Log into their account at DisasterAssistance.gov.
Call the FEMA helpline at 800-621-FEMA (3362). People who are deaf, hard of hearing or have a speech disability and use a TDD may call 800-462-7585. Toll-free numbers are open daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Visit another center in Puerto Rico. Survivors may locate their closest center by calling the FEMA Helpline or going online to FEMA.gov/DRC.
Centers serve all community members, and visitors do not have to be registered with FEMA to access these services. Representatives from local and volunteer agencies are available at centers across the island to provide assistance with housing repairs, commodities and clothing, rental resources, FEMA case review, emotional and spiritual wellness services and legal services.
Recovery officials encourage Irma and Maria survivors who registered for disaster assistance with FEMA to stay in touch. If survivors change addresses or phone numbers they should contact FEMA to update their information. Missing or incorrect information could result in delays in receiving assistance.
