CHICAGO - The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency announced today that $5.5 million has been made available in federal disaster aid for medical supplies and equipment to support healthcare workers in the state of Ohio.
This grant funding is part of the recovery efforts in response to the COVID-19 federal disaster declaration of March 31, 2020. ProMedica Health System, which includes hospitals throughout Ohio, provided emergency protective measures, including personal protective equipment, to eliminate the immediate threat to life, public health and safety during the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“FEMA’s Public Assistance Program is an important resource for communities affected by COVID-19,” said FEMA Region V Administrator James K. Joseph. “This funding helps ensure Ohio’s frontline healthcare workers remain protected, so they can continue their heroic efforts to protect the public during the response to this pandemic.”
“Areas in and around Toledo, Ohio have experienced some of the highest rates of COVID cases,” said Ohio Emergency Management Agency Executive Director Sima Merick. “This funding allows ProMedica to continue their mission of providing critical medical care to patients.”
The Public Assistance Program funding will be administered by the Ohio Emergency Management Agency. FEMA provides a 75 percent federal share of eligible reimbursable expenses for this project. ProMedica Toledo Hospital is eligible to receive $2,018,825 in federal funding, of the total $2,691,767 eligible project cost. ProMedica Health System is eligible to receive $3,539,616 in federal grant funding, of the total $4,719,488 eligible project cost. The remaining amounts will be paid by ProMedica Health System.
FEMA’s Public Assistance Program provides funding to local government jurisdictions and eligible private non-profits for the repair, replacement, or restoration of disaster-damaged infrastructure as well as costs incurred for debris removal, disaster cleanup and emergency actions taken to protect lives or property.
