DENVER - The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved an additional $773,036 to reimburse Boulder County for flood recovery work on Old South St. Vrain Road and the bridge over South St. Vrain Creek. The approval is the result of significant work and collaboration between FEMA and local officials to work through eligibility issues on numerous flood recovery projects.

FEMA has provided a total of $85.8 million to Boulder County. FEMA had previously provided $1.1 million federal share toward the $2.5 million South St. Vrain Creek project.

This additional round of funding comes as a result of project review guidance under the Disaster Recovery and Reform Act (DRRA).  Local officials were able to opt into a review process in which FEMA Region 8 Recovery staff and state and local officials worked through eligibility issues to reach successful resolutions.

“Our goal in assisting with these projects has been to get the right result,” explained FEMA Region 8 Acting Administrator Nancy Dragani. “This additional funding for Boulder County is the result of ongoing communication and partnership from all levels of government.”

Boulder County was among the hardest hit areas in 2013, when up to 17 inches of rain fell in less than a week.
