FEMA strives to create and maintain an environment that promotes equal employment opportunity (EEO) for all persons and is free of unlawful discrimination and harassment.
As employees and applicants, it is important that you know your rights. If you feel you have experienced discrimination or harassment you may file a complaint.
Know Your Rights
Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)
Equal employment opportunity (EEO) protects FEMA’s current and former employees and job applicants from workplace discrimination or harassment.
For all others with questions about filing an employment discrimination complaint, visit the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's website.
Reasonable Accommodations
A reasonable accommodation is a change in the work environment or in work processes that enables a qualified individual with a disability to enjoy equal employment opportunities.
FEMA provides reasonable accommodations to meet the needs of employees and job applicants with disabilities and address barriers caused by disabilities or functional limitations.
FEMA also provides reasonable accommodations to a qualified employee’s or applicant’s known limitations related to, affected by, or arising out of pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions.
Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment
Harassment is prohibited at FEMA.
No FEAR Act
The Notification and Federal Employee Anti-discrimination and Retaliation Act (No FEAR Act) requires each federal agency — including FEMA — to provide written notification of the rights and protections available to federal employees, former federal employees, and applicants for federal employment under federal anti-discrimination and whistleblower laws.
Anti-Harassment Program
We are committed to providing a work environment free of discrimination and harassment. Consequently, the Agency prohibits harassment even if it does not rise to the level of harassment that violates the law. Although a single harassing utterance or act may not rise to a level that may be actionable under the law, it still has no place at FEMA. Visit the Office of Professional Responsibility Anti-Harassment webpage for more information.
Reaffirmation Statement
Discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, or transgender status), age, disability, protected genetic information (including family medical history), parental status, or reprisal is against the law. Workplace harassment will not be tolerated. FEMA will take immediate corrective action against harassing conduct to prevent it.
