Using Data to Help Disclose Flood Risk
FEMA Region 6 is hosting Hazard Mitigation and Floodplain Management trainings open to all to present best practices, challenges, and innovative programs in floodplain management. In this webinar, learn how flood risk and flood loss data can help potential property owners make informed decisions and help current property owners consider potential mitigation actions. Flood disclosure varies from state to state and often is not easily or publicly accessible, but two groups are working to change that to get information to residents and decision makers.

Flood risk and flood loss data can help potential property owners make informed decisions and help current property owners consider potential mitigation actions. However, flood disclosure varies from state to state and often is not easily or publicly accessible. Join us to hear about two projects changing the face of disclosure: TX Buyer Be-Where, from Texas A&M University, and HazardAware, a project supported by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, Gulf Research Program. Both programs aim to enable public access to vulnerability data of properties, along with potential mitigation information. Learn about how the projects were developed; how the websites function—including what data is available, how they are funded, and future maintenance considerations; how website data is analyzed; and how people have used the sites to make informed decisions.
One and a half hours of Continuing education credit is approved through the Association of State Floodplain Managers for Certified Floodplain Managers (CFMs®). Duration of attendees and learning checks will be verified in order to get credit.
