The Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Southbury, Connecticut, opened to help those affected by the August 18-19, 2024 Severe Storm, Flooding, Landslides and Mudslides, will close permanently at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19.

FEMA may provide two types of assistance following a presidential disaster declaration: Individual Assistance and Public Assistance. The two programs are funded independently from each other and are intended to benefit individuals and communities in different ways.

Six weeks after President Joseph R. Biden declared a major disaster for the state of Connecticut following the August 18-19, 2024 Severe Storm, Flooding, Landslides and Mudslides, more than $9 million in federal assistance has been provided by FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to support disaster recovery.

FEMA assistance is not taxable. Applying for disaster assistance will not affect other federal benefits you may receive. Accepting FEMA funds will not affect eligibility for Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, or other federal benefit programs. Disaster funds help survivors pay for temporary housing, essential home repairs, essential personal property replacement, and other serious disaster-related needs not covered by insurance or other sources. If you live in Fairfield, Litchfield or New Haven county and you had loss or damage from the Severe Storm, Flooding, Landslides and Mudslides that occurred August 18-19, 2024, FEMA may be able to help.

Survivors have just one week left to apply for FEMA disaster assistance before the November 19, 2024 deadline. Homeowners and renters who had property damage or losses caused by the August 18-19, 2024 Severe Storm, Flooding, Landslides and Mudslides in Connecticut’s Fairfield, Litchfield and New Haven Counties may be eligible for federal disaster assistance. All applications received prior to or on the deadline date will be processed.
