PHILADELPHIA – The Federal Emergency Management Agency has provided more than $4 billion to Region 3 states and the District of Columbia for costs related to saving lives and protecting the public from COVID-19. In addition to Washington, DC, Region 3 includes Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. Funds were distributed among local partners, state partners, school districts, other public entities, and certain private nonprofits.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) announced today that $85,642,325.12 million in federal funding has been made available to DEMA for emergency protective measure costs related to the state’s COVID-19 Pandemic response under the federal disaster declaration of April 5, 2020.

FEMA has amended the agency’s COVID-19 funeral assistance policy to assist with COVID-19 related fatalities that occurred in the early months of the pandemic. This policy change will allow applicants to submit a statement or letter from the death certificate’s certifying official, medical examiner, or coroner that attributes the death to COVID-19 fatalities that occurred between Jan. 20 and May 16, 2020.

FEMA, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Health and Human Services (HHS), Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA), Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH), and Dover International  Speedway (DIS) have partnered to open a COVID-19 vaccination drive-thru site for six days beginning Saturday, February 20, 2021.
