The Federal Emergency Management Agency has appointed Kristen Hodge to serve as the Director for U.S. Virgin Islands Joint Recovery Office. Director Hodge officially began June 20, 2021 and will focus on the Territory’s priorities to repair and rebuild its infrastructure with a focus on equity for a recovery that benefits the whole community.

Coordination to break the cycle of disaster damage, reconstruction, and repeated damage continues between FEMA, the U.S. Virgin Islands Office of Disaster Recovery, and the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency. This effort has led to $93.03 million obligated for projects to reduce the loss of life and property from disasters through FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.

Collaboration between the Territory and FEMA’s Public Assistance team led to the approval of $25.8 million in December to support recovery from the 2017 hurricanes. The grant awards were for management costs and recovery projects that will strengthen and restore health care facilities, historical buildings and roads.

ST. CROIX, U.S. Virgin IslandsFEMA’s Public Buildings Group continues to push recovery projects forward to strengthen the Territory’s resilience against disasters. Collaboration between the group and Public Assistance (PA) Program applicants led to $7 million awarded for projects in November.

ST. CROIX, U.S. Virgin Islands -- The mission to repair damage from hurricanes Irma and Maria to public buildings led to $3 million awarded through FEMA’s Public Assistance (PA) Program for numerous recovery projects in the Territory last month.

An obligation of $890,169 for the Judiciary of the Virgin Islands to restore the Alexander A. Farrelly Justice Center on St. Thomas back to its pre-disaster design, capacity and function stands out among approved projects in October. The three-story justice center on Veterans Drive houses courtrooms and offices.
