St. John the Baptist Parish will raise flood-prone structures to prevent future flooding.

alert - info

St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana: $9.85 million

St. John the Baptist Parish has identified flood-prone structures to raise to two feet above the Base Flood Elevation. The engineering design phase will inform how to raise the structures. Structures that lie within the Special Flood Hazard Area will be raised to meet the minimum standards of the Federal Flood Protection Standard. Structures under consideration have received 149 Severe Repetitive and Repetitive Loss claims.

The project will also include site stabilization measures to help reduce the impacts of subsidence on the structure and reduce the stormwater runoff burden on the parish drainage system. If a structure cannot feasibly be raised, it may be mitigated through reconstruction. Such a structure must use the same square footage as the original (plus the allowable 10% increase) and meet the parish’s code of ordinances.
