Florida county will elevate six single-family homes with a history of flooding.
Santa Rosa County, Florida: $2.31 million
Project Description
Santa Rosa County proposes elevations to six single-family homes located within a Special Flood Hazard Area and have a history of structural flooding resulting in 21 repetitive and severe repetitive loss claims. Their finished floor elevations are below the Base Flood Elevation (BFE) and are in imminent risk of reoccurring flooding. They will be elevated on an open foundation at a minimum of three feet above the BFE, per county ordinance, or above the highest known flood level, whichever is higher and also include a three-foot buffer for sea level rise.
This project includes building and site preparation, the disconnection of utilities, and construction of ways to enter and exit the elevated living spaces. For structures in Coastal Zones delimited by the Limit of Moderate Wave Action (LiMWA) on the Flood Insurance Rate Map, the foundation system shall be designed to account for wave action, debris impact, erosion, and local scour per the Florida Building Code requirements.
The LiMWA marks the inland limit of the Coastal A Zone— the part of the coastal high-risk area referenced by building codes and standards where wave heights can be between 1.5 and 3 feet during a base flood event. The LiMWA is an informational line that can be found on flood maps for some coastal areas.
