Wasilla Disaster Recovery Center Transitions to SBA Disaster Loan Outreach Center
The disaster recovery center in Wasilla is now operating as a U.S. Small Business Administration disaster loan outreach center.
Business owners and individuals affected by Nov. 30 Alaska earthquake can visit the center at:
Christ First United Methodist Church
2635 S. Old Knik Rd.
Wasilla, AK 99654.
Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 a.m.
The U.S. Small Business Administration is the federal government’s primary source of money for the long-term rebuilding of disaster-damaged private property. SBA helps businesses of all sizes, private nonprofit organizations, homeowners and renters fund repairs or rebuilding efforts and cover the cost of replacing lost or disaster-damaged personal property.
SBA customer service representatives are available to answer questions, explain SBA’s low-interest disaster loan program and close approved disaster loans. SBA can offer loans while insurance claims are pending and for insurance deductibles.
The filing deadline for individuals to return SBA loan applications for physical property damage is May 31. The deadline for businesses to submit loan applications for economic injury is Nov. 1.
FEMA May Help with Earthquake-Related Foundation Damage
Additional FEMA funding may be available to eligible homeowners who had damage to their foundations as a result of the Nov. 30 earthquake.
If you have applied for FEMA assistance and received a determination letter you disagree with, you must submit, in writing, a letter explaining the reason for the appeal. Appeals should be submitted within 60 days of the date on your FEMA decision letter. For appeals submitted after the 60-day mark, include your reason for the delay.
An appeal letter for foundation damage should be accompanied by a written contractor’s estimate. Case workers will contact the contractor to verify the estimate. If any document is missing, FEMA will send you a letter requesting the information.
To find out more about the appeals process, download “Help After a Disaster” at go.usa.gov/xmaRK.
Homeowners can also visit a disaster recovery center to chat with a FEMA representative.
FEMA inspections are free of charge
If you applied for federal disaster assistance and require a home inspection, FEMA does not charge an inspection fee. If you need a contractor’s estimate for repairs, the contractor may charge a fee. Get the facts about disaster recovery. Call the disaster assistance helpline at 800-621-3362.
