Ashton is a 12th grade student from Arizona. His interest in preparedness stems from experiencing the impacts of extreme heat in his hometown, and a desire to improve his community’s climate resilience. Ashton hopes his time on the national YPC will expand his understanding of how to support his local community in preparing for and responding to extreme heat events.
Ashton founded a local hub of the Sunrise Movement, a political organization focused on advancing climate justice through grassroots organizing. As a committed climate advocate, Ashton was appointed by his city’s mayor to the local Youth and Education Commission. Ashton also volunteers his time with political candidates who support climate change solutions, and he hopes to become more involved in politics in the future.
In his free time, Ashton enjoys creative pursuits like painting and printmaking. He also bakes and has perfected the art of making croissants and eclairs.
