As part of President Biden's Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, beginning with awards received on or after May 14, 2022, any infrastructure project receiving federal funding must source their iron, steel, manufactured products and construction materials from the United States.

The Inflation Reduction Act authorizes FEMA to fund costs to procure building or construction materials that have a lower carbon footprint as compared to conventional materials. These efforts support the Federal Buy Clean Initiative to spur the development of lower carbon construction materials.
