FEMA Region III Podcasts, Fact Sheet Highlight Partnership Efforts in Grants’ Process

Release Date Release Number

Release Date:

PHILADELPHIA – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region III Grants Division has developed new products as a part of their strategic plan to educate and inform grants stakeholders, applicants, and recipients. Two new podcasts and an Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) fact sheet are part of a broader effort to share information about the grants life cycle and to educate potential applicants and recipients on the importance of partnerships in processing grants.

The Region III Grants podcasts focus on two aspects of the review process: Amendments and Site Visits. Amendments provide an opportunity for recipients to make a change to the original grant award. Site visits, on the other hand, enable FEMA Grants specialists to work closely with the recipients on their grant implementation and administrative efforts when it comes to compliance for federal awards. “These new products represent our continued efforts to coordinate with potential recipients and share information relative to the grants life cycle in an easily accessible format,” stated FEMA Region III Regional Administrator MaryAnn Tierney. Below is an excerpt from the Site Visits podcast:

“One thing to stress is that we are not auditors. Our purpose is to make sure the recipients are audit ready. We can make suggestions on policies and request a corrective action plan if there are findings, but they are not sent to the Federal Audit Clearinghouse. They are only tracked internally at FEMA Region 3 and Headquarters.” – Megan, FEMA Region III Grants Specialist

Both podcasts are available at https://www.fema.gov/region-iii-grants and through the Multimedia library.

The Region III Grants EMPG Fact Sheet provides a short overview of the goals of the EMPG program, what the grant provides funding for, and Region III points of contact. This document is designed to help new recipient staff to understand the basics of the program and what is allowed through the grant.
