ORLANDO, Fla. – A local government agency will receive more than $10.2 million in a recent FEMA grant to reimburse Hurricane Irma-related expenses.

This grant will reimburse City of Plantation expenses to remove storm-related debris and ensure city streets were clear after the storm.

FEMA provided $9.2 million, or 90 percent, of this grant and the remaining $1 million will come from nonfederal sources. The agency is granting more than the standard 75 percent because Plantation qualified for FEMA financial incentives to remove storm-related debris faster.

The state and FEMA work together with Plantation and other Broward County applicants to ensure they gather and submit all documents to move recovery forward.

The grant is part of more than $100 million FEMA has provided in Public Assistance grants to reimburse Hurricane Irma-related expenses in Florida. PA reimburses state and local governments and some nonprofits for disaster-generated debris removal, disaster preparation and response and repairing or replacing eligible infrastructure including roads, bridges, buildings and utilities.

The agency obligates grants directly to the state. It is the state's responsibility to ensure applicants like the City of Plantation receive reimbursement awards.

The federal disaster declaration for Hurricane Irma made Public Assistance available in all 67 Florida counties. More than 1,000 government entities and nonprofits across Florida are seeking PA help for Hurricane Irma recovery assistance.
