REGION 1 – The New Hampshire Electric Cooperative will receive $1,278,272 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for the repair of downed wires and to replace utility poles and transformers damaged in the March 2017 severe winter storm.
The $1,278,272 grant represents a federal share of the total project cost of $1,704,363. The remainder will come from non-federal sources.
This grant is funded through FEMA’s Public Assistance Grant program which reimburses communities for actions taken in the immediate response and during recovery from a disaster. Eligible applicants include states, federally recognized tribal governments, U.S. territories, local governments, and certain private non-profit organizations. The grant applications are submitted from the state, which coordinates the process with local governments.
FEMA obligates funding for this project directly to the state. It is the state's responsibility to ensure that the eligible sub-recipient receives this award. Following the state's review process and upon receipt of appropriate documentation, they will provide funds to the sub-recipient on a reimbursable basis.
The New England Electric Cooperative is a private non-profit organization operating in the two counties, Belknap and Carrol Counties, to receive a Presidential declaration due to the extent of the damages caused by a severe winter storm from March 14 – 15, 2017. To date FEMA has obligated more than $1,685,000 to New Hampshire as a result of damages from that declaration, DR-4316-NH, under the Public Assistance program.
