BATON ROUGE, La. — About $1.5 million will go to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office from FEMA for recovery from the August flooding. Recovery assistance will help replace damaged equipment, vehicles and other items used for emergency protective measures. Funds are obligated through FEMA’s Public Assistance (PA) program. This represents 90 percent—the federal share—of the $1.61 million total project cost.
As of May 1, FEMA’s PA program has obligated nearly $343 million to state and local governments and certain private nonprofits. Of the total amount, more than $242 million was designated to reimburse for emergency protective measures taken and debris cleanup in parishes covered by the August disaster declaration.
FEMA’s PA program helps to repair or replace critical infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, public buildings and schools. PA offers supplemental financial assistance on a cost-sharing basis. FEMA typically reimburses 75 percent of eligible PA expenses, however, FEMA will reimburse applicants 90 percent of eligible PA expenses given the magnitude of the August floods.
