WASHINGTON – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), together with the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (NVOAD) today, hosted Partnership Day. This event highlights the vital role of voluntary, community, and faith-based organizations before, during and after disasters.

“I’m thankful we get this day to honor Voluntary Organizations and their dedication to service, they are integral to community preparedness and disaster response,” said FEMA Administrator Brock Long. “Discussions held today demonstrate how seriously we value our partners and the lessons we’ve learned collaborating on the ground, helping us plan for the future.”

More than 30 voluntary organizations, as well as groups from within FEMA, took part in the event which included exhibit showcases, meet and greets with subject matter experts, and topic-focused discussion panels. All activities centered on enhancing communication with whole community stakeholders, raising disaster awareness, increasing preparedness, and sharing lessons learned.  Discussions panel topics focused on federal programs and voluntary organization capabilities. In particular, the groups discussed disaster case management, hazard mitigation, access and functional needs assistance, housing, preparedness, and transitional housing assistance.
