South Carolina: Let FEMA Know if you Disagree with Home Repair Grant Amount

Letter from Contractor, Local Official May Increase Financial Assistance

COLUMBIA, S.C. —A letter may increase financial assistance for survivors of South Carolina’s April 13 storms.

Disaster assistance applicants who think FEMA did not approve enough money for home repairs should appeal and provide a letter from a contractor or local government official. FEMA may then consider increasing financial assistance for the survivor to make their home livable.

The letter from the contractor or local government official should be on letterhead and include the official’s or contractor’s contact information. It should specify the storm-related damage and estimate the amount for home repairs.

Survivors may receive FEMA grants to repair homes only if damage is related to the April 13 storms. Assistance provides the basic needs for a home to be safe, sanitary and secure to make it livable.

Everybody has a right to appeal their FEMA determination.

Survivors should mail the letter from the contractor or local government official within 60 days of receiving their FEMA determination letter to the address below. They should attach the cover letter they received from FEMA.
