Proposed Saguache County Flood Map Reflects Changes to Local Flood Risk, Insurance Rates

Saguache County’s flood insurance rate map update is nearing completion. The new maps will provide Saguache County and the Town of Saguache with more accurate flood risk information that can help local officials and residents make informed decisions about reducing flood risks and purchasing flood insurance.

Saguache County’s flood insurance rate map update is nearing completion. The new maps will provide Saguache County and the Town of Saguache with more accurate flood risk information that can help local officials and residents make informed decisions about reducing flood risks and purchasing flood insurance.

The mapping project is a joint effort by Saguache County and the Town of Saguache. It is part of a nationwide effort led by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to increase local knowledge of flood risks and support actions to address and reduce those risks. Starting April 29, 2025, homeowners and businesses will have 90-days to appeal information on the map that they can prove are scientifically and/or technically incorrect.
