The term "Indian tribal government" means the governing body of any Indian or Alaska Native tribe, band, nation, pueblo, village, or community that the Secretary of the Interior acknowledges to exist as an Indian tribe under the Federally Recognized Indian Tribe List Act of 1994 (Section 102 of the Stafford Act, 42 United States Code (U.S.C.) § 5122(6)). This does not include Alaska Native corporations, the ownership of which is vested in private individuals. (Also refer to 44 CFR § 201.2 definitions, referring to 25 U.S.C. § 479a.).
